Our Leaders

It’s our opinion that we have some of the best adult and student leaders in the world! Our leaders lead by example, have a real and vibrant relationship with Jesus and they absolutely love our kids! Leaders spend a lot of time preparing for weekly breakouts, activities and to just pour into the lives of our students. At Hillcrest we call this the “L-K” (Leader-Kid) advantage. All of our students have leaders so no one “slips through the cracks” and so that our kids also know that there are adults and students leaders who will love and accept them for who they are. Our kids know they matter to us and to God. Please feel free to come to Elevate a bit early so you can meet our wonderful leaders on Sunday nights.

Larry was born and raised in Chicago. He married his sweet wife, Ingrid, June 1, 1985, after he had graduated from Moody Bible Institute. They have three boys, Bryson, Jordan, and Ryan. He has been involved in student ministries for 30 years and loves it! He has been attending Hillcrest for about 5 years.

He loves being part of a team of leaders that love God and love students. He loves sharing in the lives of leaders, students, and families. To see people passionately living for Christ is an awesome thing to be a part of.

Hi! I've been married to my wonderful husband, Paul, for over 21 years and are blessed with 2 children, Amber and Isaac. We've been attending Hillcrest since moving to Oregon 13 years ago.

I have been serving in children's ministry in some capacity since joining HBC, mainly Awana and Quest. I have enjoyed working with kids from nursery through 6th grade through the years and look forward to now help lead the Middle School girls! It should be a great adventure!

I enjoy walking and hiking with my family, reading, having coffee with friends, and playing board games. I love Jesus and love to spend time with Him too!

Jeff Kobernusz - 7-8 Grade Boys

Email: jekobernuszrn@msn.com

Occupation: Nurse Practitioner/Educator

Hobbies: Anything outdoors, gardening, canoeing, auto and small engine repair, building/construction

I'm married to my lovely wife Dana. We have 4 kids: Noah, Micah, Gadise, and Micah. I work full time as a Nurse Practitioner at Meriter Hospital and teach part time at UW Madison for the School of Nursing doctoral program. We've been attending Hillcrest since 2005.

I had been previously an Adult leader for Cubbies in the Awana program. The last few years, I have taken a leap to a much older group of kids to the 7-8th grade boys. I also serve in many other ways at Hillcrest including lawn mowing, landscaping projects, building many of the outdoor games/entertainment settings, and drama set/construction/design.

I feel very blessed to be a part of the Elevate program. To be a part of these young men's lives in their growth in Christ during these years is so important to me. I have found in healthcare that there is a component of life long learning. The same is true with faith and the study of God's word. As I dig further into his word in preparation for our weekly lessons, it helps me learn more and reflect how I can affect these young men in their lifelong growth in Christ. I'm looking forward to a great year with these kids.
